List Building on the internet is collecting email addresses for marketing purposes. Having a list of people to email allows you to sell various products. There are several ways to build a list. Essentially, any way you see in this series to make money can also be used to create a list. One of the most effective ways to create a list is to run a PPC campaign so when the prospect then clicks through onto your landing page it’s either a squeeze page or you have another type of an opt-in-form or pop-up box there. You may want to offer the prospects a free downloadable item to entice them to sign up for your list. Also you can use social marketing sites like MySpace and FaceBook to create a group. You may also want to source a JV partner who may have a compatible list of people that would benefit from your products.

By communicating with your list on a regular basis they come to know you and trust you. You should not try and sell them something every time you email them. Rotate on what you send to them, with most of the communication being helpful tips and ideas. This way when you are ready to sell them something, they feel like they have a relationship with you and you are just not trying to market to them the whole time.

A critical component of list building is a good auto responder company. I prefer iContact mainly due to it’s ease of use and very high rate of delivery and amazing price structure. While iContact does allow you to import contacts from a list or simply add contacts, It also makes use of double opt in. With out such a diverse offering, you would no doubt end up with most if not all of your messages ending up in spam filters and starting at $10/month, you can’t lose.

Now you can generate leads too. Lead Generation is the business of building lists for prospectors. You collect the leads and sell them off as prospects. Any means you use to create a list can be used for list lead generation.
