Recently many have been referring to twitter as a search engine. While twitter can indeed be searched, I’m really not so sure that it’s a search engine. In any case, it certainly is not a search engine of the traditional sort ;o). Today’s subject is twitter search engines, yes, engines that search twitter, of which, twitter is one, ever since it acquired Summize (Anyone else feel that thump in your head? With talk like that it’s no wonder old folks can get so cranky and wave us off when we whippersnappers start talking about computers). Well it seems as though that was a perfect fit. The fact of the matter is, not too far from the dubbed founding premise of twitter as a micro blogging platform, if you are looking for micro rants or reviews about absolutely anything and everything, yes even in real time, twitter is the place to search. No doubt twitter is why Google has switched from a aged result form of its algorithm to a recent form. I’m sure it’s no surprise then that the 1st on the list of twitter search engines is…

1. search.twitter.com, twitters own search engine once called Summize it was a search engine that crawled online reviews and blog discussions in order to create summarized reviews of various media types.

twitter Integration Script (my personal favorite) is a FireFox script that adds a small but familiar link to twitter search results.

6. Twithority is a nice looking and working authority based twitter search engine, Results seem to be based on the amount of followers and tweets a person has.

7. twitterjobsearch is a semantic twitter search engine that looks for jobs listed on twitter, neat!

8. Tweetmeme is a tweet popularity engine that updates every 5 minutes and also has a nifty Wordpress plugin and html add on. It’s very Digg like and has many categories.
