Hi. My daughter is having the same problem with YouTube videos. We've isolated the issue to Vista's parental controls. When I turn off controls, she can see the videos in any browser. When I turn them on (medium setting), she can't view ANY youtube videos. I've tried various configurations of custom settings to no avail, so we've had to disable parental controls on her computer.

Hi Bob,
I remember the PIV, it was notoriously slow. All you can do for that is get more RAM, as much as your system will allow, up to 2GB. Throw out the old sym. UNINSTALL NORTON and all that other stuff except AVG. Get the full version and enable the firewall. If you want a good registry cleaner get Advanced Windows Care, it also has a startup utility (if you don't like msconfig.exe) If you want a good defrag tool get Smart Defrag. Make sure windows and office are up to date. Short of getting a new system, that's about it.
All The Best

Hi Jim.

My machine: P-IV 2 GHz, 512 megs Ram, with minimal open programs.

I ran a virus scan as per your suggestion above to others, and was shocked to find it said I DO have viruses!

I'm running:
1) AVG (up to date, scans set to "deep" (slow).
2) COMODO DOClean.
3) CCleaner ("Crap" Cleaner) (Run weekly)
4) MS Pop-up stopper (set to stop ALL pop-ups)
5) Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
6) Spybot Search and Destroy
7) A-Squared
8) NetLimiter Pro
9) SUPERAnti-Spyware
10) Spyware Blaster
11) Norton Systemworks Systems Utilities - Disc Doctor and Windows Doctor run regularly. (Note I do not use Norton Anti-Virus as it is resource-heavy).

I have NO "add-ons" running on my web browser (tool bars, etc), and all "service packs" are all up to date.

Yet the machine takes FOREVER to run, and especially start applications, change from one window to another, etc.

The Internet activity icon shows activity each and every time I run ANYthing, yet AVG, and previously NOD32 and Norton Anti-Virus never show any viruses.

I am at a loss why this machine is sooooo slow, and now why these "latent" viruses: Bck/VB.XB, JS/Kak.Worm, plus a number of "Tracking Application", "Dialer", "Joke", and "Adware" all showed up when I ran an on-line virus-scan using your suggested Panda Security check.

HELP!!

Thanks,
Bob

Meghann, packet loss is lost data that needs to be re-transmitted. Many times the cause is from outside sources too. You can also try logging into your router and checking its log file. You may find that an outside system is spamming your network. This happens allot from say a neighbors laptop that has a virus and is trying to gain access to you wireless network. This causes your router to become overloaded, initiating the packet loss.

I'm doing the scan as I type this. If it's a virus I know what to do but if its not a virus then its obviously defective equipment? Which equipment? And what exactly is packet loss?

In the case where an entire site has the same issue like that Meghann, typically it's from packet loss due to excessive retransmission. It's possible that you have either defective equipment or a system with a virus. You could try a free online virus scanner like the one at pandasoftware.com

Hey there! I've been having this problem just recently and it came out of no where! I was on Youtube watching videos just fine before work and when I came back most of the videos wouldn't load and gave me that blasted message.

I don't have Google Web Accelerator.

I really don't want to switch browers but I will if its my last resort. I've uninstalled flash and reinstalled it. I've checked to see if my firewalls block content from Youtube and its all good.

On a side note: All of the computers/laptops in my house have the same problem. Does that mean this is a network problem? And if so, how do I fix it? Do I do something with my router or modem? Do I call my internet provider? What if I connect to a different a different network? I know many of my friends do not have this problem.

I see you are in the UK Robert, all I can suggest is to try viewing during non peak hours or giving AOL video a shot. A 3rd party virus scan like that over at pandasoftware.com might help too.

Steve, I suppose anything is possible but installing Flock did not change my or anyones DNS and it did fixed the problem. That open source DNS server has nothing to do with 'open fetch slots' as alleged over at techxiety.

I was facing this error - We're sorry, this video is no longer available on IE, then I switched to Firefox and finally to FLock...but unfortunately the error persists :(
Does this mean that my internet service provider is blocking out video stream?

I am having the same problem and no it is not Google accelerator because I've never used it. Plus it's not my connection because it used to work fine with exactly the same modem/router and a different PC. It stopped with my new PC which I suspect means there is software or a setting on here that is not on the other.

I have 5 web browsers on 2 different PC's in tha same house. Both systems had the same problem with the error. When I tried Flock I had no problem at all. One browser would say 'we're sorry this video is no longer available 'and Flock would play it just fine at the exact same time.

I don't think it's connection issues.
I just got a new computer and I have been getting this problem. I don't have the Google Web Accelerator. it just suddenly stopped working.

That's a great tip guys thanks. One more piece added to the puzzle. Seems in your case YouTube AKA Google, really is acting like Microsoft with one part not working with another. I'm sorry to say that didn't work for me. I was getting the error in Safari and Opera as well as FF and IE. Go FLOCK!

If you have Google Accelerator, turn it off. It's creating a conflict with YouTube giving you the errors.
